This Week on Living Fly on a Dime…

Posted by Fly on a Dime on Feb 1, 2010 in Random

Just wanted to let you know posts will be nonexistent few and far between this week. I’m seriously under the weather (fatigue, nonstop runny nose, loss of appetite, etc.) I rarely get sick, but when I do, it really sucks. So maybe I’ll hit you with a post or two, but I’ll most likely be in an TheraFlu-induced haze.

In the meantime, be sure to check out the folks on my Blogroll for your reading pleasure.

See ya next week (sniffle!).

Real Vs. Fake

Posted by Fly on a Dime on Dec 21, 2009 in Random, shopping

Fake Designer BagsI came across an interesting study published by MIT on whether people can distinguish luxury items from the counterfeits.

The verdict: Most people couldn’t tell the real from the fake, but instead relied on the social cues and status of the person carrying or wearing the item to determine its authenticity. Basically, if a well put together, affluent looking woman is carrying a Louis Vuitton, most people would assume it’s legit.

Also, 46% of people who buy fake designer items end up buying the real version shortly after.

I’ve never really been of a knock-off person, though I did have a faux Burberry scarf years ago. I wonder if people assumed it was fake?

So where do you stand on the “reals” versus the “fakes”? Great way to save a buck or why bother unless you can afford the real deal?

Gobble Gobble B*tches

Happy Thanksgiving folks. Hopefully you’re feasting on some mouthwatering, unhealthy food. I’ll be back tomorrow with a regular post, but in the meantime, here’s a little Rick Astley at last year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. *I still can’t believe that voice comes out of that body.

i've got the GLOW..and a cheesy grin

Disclaimer: This post has absolutely nothing to do with budget living, but I promise tomorrow will be back to the regularly scheduled cheap programming.

I’m just so excited I met the man above (no, not the man above, but the man in the above picture). Still not sure who he is? Think back to 24 years ago. A cult classic. Martial Arts. I met Taimak from The Last Dragon. I was only three when the film was released but over the years it became one of my fave, cheesy movies.
